Blackberry Plants
Each of the five varieties we’re offering this year are all improved, thornless varieties with great flavor—both for eating out of hand and for baking and preserving. Because blackberries are native to the southeastern US, they are easily grown in our area, and our selections are particularly suited to thrive in NC weather and conditions.
Blackberries are self-fertile so only one plant or variety is necessary, but we recommend planting more than one variety because this extends the harvest season. This means you’ll enjoy fresh fruit for longer if you choose a pair or trio of different varieties.
Blackberries will produce the most in full sun, but they also do well with a half-day of sun. They can produce up to 20 pounds of fruit per year, depending on location and variety. Plants are expected to be 3-5 feet tall and send out lateral runners which expand the blackberry plant each season, if not pruned back. Trailing varieties do better with a fence or trellis for support and erect varieties do not need extra structure.
All varieties are sold in 1 gallon pots.
