Pasture Raised Poultry & Edible Landscaping Plants Since 2013

A Dirt Pile or a Mountain?

We’re rolling into mid-winter and spring planting and nursery prep just like this 3.5 year old–with lots of excitement for 2021! 🌄

This week we got our annual delivery of planting materials/soil to get us through our nursery activities, and this mountain is the best part! Uhtred could just climb this things all day–no joke. Sometimes dinosaurs are on the mountain, sometimes it’s a mountain lion, and other times Spiderman makes an appearance. We can honestly say that farming with littles gets better every single year. ❤️

10% Off the Best Wings Ever!

WANGS!!! Here’s our contribution to your weekend festivities, whether they include a football game or not–juicy, pasture raised chicken wings. Hands down the best you’ll ever eat. Come on by Greensboro’s Corner Farmers Market tomorrow and grab a pack!

10% Off Pasture Raised Chicken Wings

This week chicken wings are 10% off, just in time for game day! Or, if you’re not into football, it’s just in time for lets-eat-delicious-wings Sunday! 😎

Our preferred cooking method is a new one for us, courtesy of the @kingkooker leg and wing rack and it’s AMAZING! We’ve been oven roasting our wings with it, and the rack hangs them above their cooking juices, allowing them to crisp up on all sides. It’s like fried chicken, but without the fry. 🐓

So drop by the Corner Farmers Market in Greensboro on Saturday from 8-11am to pick up some wings for your clan! You can also reserve your pack to ensure you get some before supplies run out! 😉

We’ve Got Your Spring Seeds (When the Seed Companies Sell Out)

Our go-to, favorite seed company is Southern Exposure Seeds Exchange, for so many reasons! First of all, their seed options are often heirloom and organic. They also offer a selection that is best suited for our area of the country–the south! 🌱

This year, seed companies are super busy and not all have enough stock to fill the orders they’re receiving. Southern Exposure is one of these, and they’ve already stopped accepting orders from home gardeners. As a commercial farm, we will continue to have access to the best seeds in the south, so stop by our table and make a selection! 🍅

Beautiful Bare Root Trees

Here we go! Time for digging up bare root trees for landscaping clients and getting other trees potted. 🌳

The peach tree that Uhtred is holding is an example of what a peach tree can do in our area, in good soil. It was planted last year, as a 2-year-old tree (about 4 feet tall) and only watered in ONCE. It’s now over 7 feet tall! 👌

Jason delivered this tree to a client today, who will likely enjoy peaches from its branches *this year.* We’ve got one waiting for you, when you’re ready! 🍑

10% Off Chicken Wings This Saturday!

It’s that time of year again—time for wings! This week, wings are 10% off! Whether you’re grabbing some for game snacks or looking to stock up for the family meals this week, we’ve got the wings! 🏈

Just a reminder: Our birds are raised on pasture, fed non-GMO feed, and our Red Ranger breed does an excellent job foraging for food during the growing season (on native plants, dropped fruits, edible plants, and juicy bugs). 🐓

We hope to see you Saturday at @cornermarketgso—we’ll bring youpasture raised, scrumptious wings! 😉

Pak Choi Seeds, Baby!

Pak choi, baby! It’s excellent eaten in stir fries and also great when cut during it’s tender days and added to salad mixes. 🌱

Our favorite: sauteed in chicken fat with a dash of sesame oil and soy sauce/liquid aminos AND sesame oil drizzled on top afterwards. YUM. 👌

Welcome to Our Market Office Hours!

Welcome to our market office hours! 😆

Do you remember in school, when you would attend office hours if you had a question or needed clarification on a certain topic? Well, consider our Saturday market time like our office hours. As spring approaches, you’re probably planning big things for 2021, and we’d love to help in any way we can.

We await your questions and queries every Saturday from 8-11am! Come and ask us anything (especially plant related), like:
🌱 When and how should I be planting my fruit trees and berry bushes?
🌿 What are best plants to grow in my NC annual garden?
🌳 What are the fruit profiles of the different fruit trees you offer?
🍃 Last year I had trouble growing (insert plant here). What should I do differently this year?

We’ll troubleshoot with you, share stories of success and failure, and give you some plantings tips, and more! Can’t wait to see you Saturday at @cornermarketgso!

Plant Profile: Yellow & White Peaches

Peaches are a classic southern fruit, juicy and sweet! We have both white and yellow peaches and you choose the varieties that best suit your family’s taste buds! Peaches are hardy in our NC climate and are self-fertile, which means you won’t have to consider planting location in order to ensure they bear fruit. They can be planted anywhere along your property, even far away from other peaches, and they’ll still bear delicious fruit. Message us or reach out to us via email (kwhomestead@gmail.com) if you’re interested in grabbing any of the peach varieties below: 🍑

Yellow-Flesh Peaches: Redhaven, Challenger, Winblo, Intrepid, Contender, Cresthaven, Carolina Gold, Victoria, & Desiree 🔶

White-Flesh Peaches: Surecrop, July Rose, Nectar, & China Pearl ⚪️

Also available are extra large, bare root peaches that are currently 6-7 feet tall, well branched, and ready to flower (our usual peach trees are 3-5 feet tall). Planting these trees may get you fruit in 2021… Which is a pretty exciting thing!  If you are interested in getting peaches the quickest, this is the best bet for you. Act fast, because they are only offered in the bare root option and in select varieties. 🌳

Seed Feature: Suyo Long Cucumber

Introducing… Our absolute favorite cucumber of all time! The Suyo Long is an epic cucumber in so many ways–first of all, it’s epically long! Long and thin, with a ridged skin, it makes for a crunchy and super sweet pickle or for fresh eating. If left to grow on the vine too long, length and size can amaze–without the bitterness or toughness of many other cucumber varieties. 🌱

The plant is super hardy, and generally doesn’t have issues with pests. In fact, check out this testament to hardiness–last year we had a Suyo plant that was planted far from the usual garden space. It was trampled by cows and we forgot all about it. Later in the season it yielded a half-dozen huge and sweet cucumbers! Woo hoo! 🥒

As you can see, we cannot sing the praises of this cucumber enough! Grab your Southern Exposure seeds this Saturday at the Corner Farmers Market! 🛒
