Organic Garden Fertilizer

Check out our organic Garden Mix fertilizer! It’s a hand-blended mix of micronutrients and trace minerals which makes it gentle on the soil and a versatile option for any plant or soil type in your life. It can be used for veggies, herbs, fruit trees, berry bushes, ornamentals, or anything else! 🌱

Heavy feeders like tomatoes and peppers can take fertilizing every few weeks during the growing cycle, and light feeder plants like greens often need just one dose of fertilizer either a few weeks before or right at planting. 🥬

Come by and grab a bag of organic Garden Mix for $12–any Saturday at The Corner Farmers Market!

Veggies Starts Are Here!

This week we’ll start bringing the starts! 😉😆

We’ll start off with zucchini plants, as well as sweet bell peppers! Tomatoes, various spicy peppers, herbs, and other veggies will be coming along to the Corner Farmers Market in the weeks to come!

Introducing the Amazing Honeyberry!

Introducing… The amazing honeyberry! This plant is a new one for us this year and we’re super exciting about it. 👍🏼

Honeyberry is a non-invasive relative of the honeysuckle and has been popular in Japan for a long time! The berries have a crazy, elongated shape and a flavor that’s a bit like blueberry, a bit like blackberry, and a bit unique. 🫐

Perhaps the greatest thing about the honeyberry is how early it bears fruit! It’s a very cold hardy plant, thus easy to grow in our area… And it starts fruiting even before strawberries do—in late spring or early summer. What’s not to love? 🍓

You need at least 2 honeyberry plants in order to ensure pollination, and get ready—the blooms smell exactly like honeysuckle! 😍

FAQ: Do You Offer Any Native Plants?

Yes, we do! Native plants are a special category of plants that are near and dear to the hearts of many NC gardeners and farmers. Native plants were here before Europeans arrived, and they evolved and developed on our continent so they’re especially suited to thrive in our corner of the globe. Take a look at our native plant offerings and see what stands out to you…

Our native plants are—
🫐 Paw paw, elderberry, blueberry, blackberry, juneberry, American persimmon, mulberry, black walnut, American hazelnut, aronia, dwarf beach plum, wild plum, yaupon holly, muscadine grape

FAQ: Shade Plants

FAQ: Do you have any plants that will grow in the shade?

A: Yes! Plants that do well in shade include fiddlehead fern, hosta, paw paw, mushrooms, box huckleberry, woodland medicinals, and more.

Other plants that do well in partial shade (if your area gets a half a day of sun): aronia, persimmon, hazelnut, elderberry, blueberry, blackberry, and more.

So to all the folks out there who think that their lawn or property is too shady for an edible landscape, you’re in luck! 😉

If you have any questions about getting started on your shady site, message us or email us at kwhomestead@gmail.com.

Peach Blossoms!

Oh spring! We’re so happy to see you! Please stick around for a while, beautiful. 😉

What are these blooms, you ask? Peach blossoms! This year we have regular sized, large and jumbo peach trees available! The size reflects how mature the trees are, and large and jumbo trees may even fruit this year. 🍑

Fruit Tree Pruning Services for the Triad

It’s pruning season! If you want your fruit trees to get a little bit of attention but are unsure how to give it, let us help you out! 👍🏼

Winter—a fruit tree’s dormant season—is the best time to prune trees to ensure vigorous, healthy trees and spring growth. 🌿

We offer pruning services (as well as fertilizing and planting), and Jason can conduct your tree pruning in one of 2 ways:

1) Pruning as a service and also as a one-on-one workshop of sorts, where he explains the process and demonstrates the technique

2) Pruning as a service only

If you’re interested, reach out here or email us at kwhomestead@gmail.com to schedule your fruit tree care ASAP. 🌳
